\<</timed>>'Welcome aboard,' says the air steward, with a smile. 'Please, follow me. You are in 3A.' He gestures towards the front of the aircraft.
You follow him into the first-class cabin. It's small, with only twelve seats. Yours is at the rear on the left-hand side.
'May I get you a glass of champagne?' he asks, as you settle into your seat.
[['Yes.'][$hed=$hed+1]]
[['No, it's seven in the morning.'][$wor=$wor+1;$com=$com+1;$and=$and+1]]Why not? You've paid enough for this flight. You might as well get back what you can.
He appears moments later with the champagne and a selection of nuts and olives.
You nod your thanks. You sip your drink, mind drifting as you relax for the first time in days.
Ten minutes on, after two refills of your glass, the doors close, the engines start, and you push back. Five minutes later, you are in the air.
As the aircraft climbs steeply you realise that all the champagne is having some effect. Not only do you feel a little woozy, but you could do with a visit to the restroom.
[[Ignore the seatbelt sign - this is first class][$hed=$hed+1]]
[[Suffer in silence until the light goes off][$wor=$wor+1;$com=$com+1;$and=$and+1]]'Just a glass of water, please,' you say.
He looks vaguely disappointed, but shortly reappears with your drink and a selection of nuts and olives.

[[Suffer in silence until the light goes off][$wor=$wor+1;$com=$com+1;$and=$and+1]]You get to your feet, ignoring the look the air steward gives you. He says nothing - knowing how much you'll have paid for this seat.
On the way back from the restroom you glance at the other first-class passengers. There are only five:
Seat 1A - a smartly dressed lady with grey hair, writing with a silver fountain pen.
Seat 2A - a middle-aged man in a dark suit, tapping on a laptop computer.
Seat 2E - a woman dressed in a green trouser suit; sitting next to her a young girl carefully colouring in a picture of a whale.
Seat 3F - a dark-skinned man dressed in flowing brown robes, clutching what looks like a religious text, eyes closed, muttering something under his breath.
As you sit back down, the screen next to your seat lights up: 'URGENT - READ IMMEDIATELY'.
[[Do as instructed - tap on the message][$wor=$wor+1;$com=$com+1]]

What? Is this a joke? You look around you, but all appears normal. The steward is moving down the aisle with a tray of drinks.
A timer has appeared in the top-right corner of your screen - '19:48'. It is counting down.
A new message appears: 'We have been able to obtain limited information on each of the other passengers. Please select one.'

It seems you have no choice.
[[Select 'Abdullah Ibrahim']]
[[Select 'Hon Abigail Whistler, Associate Justice']]
[[Select 'James Barton']]
[[Select 'Louisa de Clerk']]Perhaps he looks most obvious.
'MR IBRAHIM (Seat 3F) is a forty-two-year-old religious scholar who teaches at a university in Karachi, Pakistan. He has a wife and five children who are not traveling with him. He has no known terrorist links. He is avowedly moderate and two years ago was denounced by his university board for trying to establish an exchange program with a Christian university. His brother was arrested three months ago in a protest against the Pakistani government and is currently being held in an undisclosed prison. Mr Ibrahim is returning from a multi-faith peace conference in Washington.'
So, despite appearances, he doesn't all that much like someone carrying a bomb. Maybe a red-herring.

[[Decide you know enough about the passengers - and move on]]
'THE HONOURABLE ABIGAIL WHISTLER (Seat 1A) is an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. She is seventy-two years old. She has been a judge for twenty-eight years with, until recently, an unblemished career. She is currently suspended from duty and under investigation by the Judicial Ethics Committee as well as the United States Congress. Judge Whistler’s daughter is a member of a far-right militant organization, CAOG – Christians Against Oppressive Government. They are known to have stockpiled large quantities of arms and explosives against what they foresee as an inevitable future civil war. Numerous members have been convicted of illegal activities and are currently imprisoned. Judge Whistler has sat on three cases involving CAOG or its members, without disclosing her links to the organization. Some members of CAOG have said that Judge Whistler herself is a covert member. She is known to hold strong religious and right-wing beliefs. It is widely expected that Judge Whistler will be found to have breached her ethical duties and be required to resign.'
Well, that wasn't what you were expecting. She seems to be in some trouble - and she potentially has access to explosives. But why would a Supreme Court Judge be blowing up an aircraft?
[[Select 'Abdullah Ibrahim']]
[[Select 'James Barton']]
[[Select 'Louisa de Clerk']]
[[Decide you know enough about the passengers - and move on]]
'JAMES BARTON (Seat 2A) was, until recently, the chief executive of a multi-billion dollar hedge fund operating out of New York. Six months ago his offices were raided by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and multiple breaches of financial regulations and criminal law were identified. He is subject to numerous charges under federal law and is currently out on bail of five million dollars. He is attempting to negotiate a plea bargain with authorities, but will still be looking at likely jail time of ten to twenty years and confiscation of most if not all of his assets. Mr Barton is married with two young children. Two weeks ago he and his wife took out a ten-million dollar insurance policy on their lives in favour of their children. They told their insurance broker that since Mr Barton travels a lot they wanted to be certain that the policy would pay out in the event of an aircraft crash.'
Hmmm. He sounds like a likely candidate. Although it's a pretty elaborate way to cash in on an insurance policy.
[[Select 'Abdullah Ibrahim']]
[[Select 'Hon Abigail Whistler, Associate Justice']]
[[Select 'Louisa de Clerk']]
[[Decide you know enough about the passengers - and move on]]
'LOUISA AND GEORGINA DE CLERK (Seats 2E & F) are a 38 year-old South African socialite/divorcée, and her daughter. Last year, in a bitterly contested divorce, Louisa was awarded sixty-million dollars in settlement, together with custody of the couple’s four-year-old daughter, Georgina. Ms de Clerk and her daughter are returning from a scheduled one-week contact visit with Georgina’s father.'
She seems the most unlikely one of all.
[[Select 'Abdullah Ibrahim']]
[[Select 'Hon Abigail Whistler, Associate Justice']]
[[Select 'James Barton']]
[[Decide you know enough about the passengers - and move on]]So now you know about the passengers. What to do?
The countdown reads '14:24'.
A message appears on the screen: 'We understand that the bomb is about the size of a hardback book - and may be disguised as one. We would expect the bomber to be keeping the bomb near their person. We are seeking more information about the suspects. Please wait.'
[[Wait in your seat][$com=$com+1;$wor=$wor+1]]
[[Go for a walk to have a another look at the suspects][$hed=$hed+1;$and=$and+1]]
You wait in your seat. The timer clicks down to '12:48'.
Eventually, a new message appears, followed by a list of the suspects' names: 'We are continuing to gather information about the suspects. Based on your investigations so far, please advise which you wish us to prioritise.'
Who to choose?
As you are thinking, you sense someone watching you. Swiftly, you turn round, hoping they haven't seen what's on the screen.
To your surprise you see that it is the girl, Georgina. She is clutching a stuffed pink unicorn, and staring at you. She points to the names on the screen, and says 'That's Mummy.' Before you can respond she runs off.
You hope she isn't going to say anything to her mother. But there doesn't seem to be anything you can do.
The timer is down to 11:08.
[[Prioritise James Barton][$wor=$wor+1]]
[[Prioritise Judge Abigail Whistler][$com=$com+1]]
[[Prioritise Louisa de Clerk][$and=$and+1]]
[[Prioritise Abdullah Ibrahim][$hed=$hed+1]]
You pretend to go to the restroom again - getting an odd look from the air steward - and on the way back study your fellow passengers more carefully.
The Judge has her eyes closed, her papers stuffed into a wicker bag at her feet. No sign of anything book sized, or shaped.
Barton has put on headphones, and is watching something. There is a brown leather briefcase tucked under his footrest. Why is he keeping it so close?
Louisa de Clerk is reading a magazine, with an empty champagne glass and a gin and tonic in front of her. Her daughter is wrapped in a blanket, watching TV, cuddling a stuffed pink unicorn.
Ibrahim hasn't moved. He continues to pray. He has a soft canvas bag next to him on his seat, a book still clutched in his hands.
You sit back down.
The countdown reads '11:02'.
A message appears, followed by a list of the suspects' names: 'We are continuing to gather information about the suspects. Based on your investigations so far, please advise which you wish us to prioritise.'
[[Prioritise James Barton][$wor=$wor+1]]
[[Prioritise Judge Abigail Whistler][$com=$com+1]]
[[Prioritise Louisa de Clerk][$and=$and+1]]
[[Prioritise Abdullah Ibrahim][$hed=$hed+1]]
You are still suspicious of Barton. You want to know about him.
You wait, anxiously, as the timer counts down. It's reading '8:07' by the time a further message pops up:
'JAMES BARTON: We have spoken to Mr Barton’s wife who said that it was she who encouraged him to take out new life insurance, and it was she who enquired about aircraft crash coverage. She says that she had recently read an article about a CEO who died in a crash and the insurers refused to pay out because of suspected terrorism. She also told us that Mr Barton is about to agree a plea bargain under which he will be required to serve a four-year prison term and pay a fine of eighty-million dollars. He is pleased with the deal and is flying to see his lawyers to finalize the paperwork.'
So that makes him less of a suspect. You are about to dismiss him as a suspect, but then you pause. Has he told the truth to his wife? This is a man who clearly knows how to lie. Is he just protecting her? Has he really done a deal with the authorities?
The list of names appears on screen again.
[[Ask the FBI to continue investigating Barton]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Judge Whistler|Barton/Judge]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Louisa de Clerk|Barton/Clerk]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Abdullah Ibrahim|Barton/Ibrahim]]
You decide that the Judge warrants further investigation. She may look like an innocent old lady, but she seems to have access to explosives, and maybe she's decided to go out in a blaze of glory.
You wait, anxiously, as the timer counts down. It's reading '8:04' by the time a further message pops up:
'THE HONOURABLE ABIGAIL WHISTLER, ASSOCIATE JUSTICE: We understand from the Judicial Ethics Committee that based on current evidence they are likely to conclude that Judge Whistler was in breach of her duties in failing to declare her daughter’s links to CAOG, but that there is no evidence that the Judge herself is a member. The Committee does not think that there is any credible evidence to support that allegation, and considers it unlikely that the Judge would have access to any form of explosive device. The Committee’s current intention it to issue a reprimand and permit her to continue her duties.'
So that makes her less of a suspect. But does the Judge know the outcome? Or does she think she's about to be dismissed? So does that really help?
The list of names appears on screen again.
[[Ask the FBI to continue investigating the Judge]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise James Barton|Judge/Barton]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Louisa de Clerk|Judge/Clerk]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Abdullah Ibrahim|Judge/Ibrahim]]
Louisa de Clerk seems the least likely suspect of all. She's just got divorced, has loads of money, and is travelling with her young daughter. But you never know.
You wait, anxiously, as the timer counts down. It's reading '8:11' by the time a further message pops up:
'LOUISA DE CLERK: Witnesses report that shortly before boarding the flight Ms de Clerk was seen at the airport arguing fiercely with a man who matches the description of her former husband. We understand that Mr de Clerk met her at the airport to hand over Georgina. We have traced a vehicle belonging to Mr de Clerk leaving the airport shortly thereafter.'
That's not much information, but would explain why she was drinking so early in the flight. It might mean she was upset. But getting a bomb would take planning. She's not going to have done it last minute. And why?
The list of names appears on screen again.
[[Ask the FBI to continue investigating the Louisa de Clerk]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise James Barton|Clerk/Barton]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise the Judge|Clerk/Judge]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Abdullah Ibrahim|Clerk/Ibrahim]]
He seems too obvious a suspect - ticking every prejudice for a potential terrorist. But maybe the obvious is right. Or maybe it's a double-bluff. Make someone look like a terrorist so that people will be too afraid to challenge him.
You wait, anxiously, as the timer counts down. It's reading '8:02' by the time a further message pops up:
'ABDULLAH IBRAHIM: We have discovered more information about Mr Ibrahim's brother. He is suspected of having been involved in the murder of an undercover CIA agent in Karachi. He has recently been transferred by the Pakistan government to a secret CIA rendition centre for interrogation. We have traced telephone calls from Mr Ibrahim's brother's wife to Mr Ibrahim whilst he was in Washington. We are seeking to obtain recordings of the calls.'
Has the apparently peace-loving scholar been turned against the United States by the arrest - and possible torture - of his brother? Or is the religious scholar thing all a front anyway?
The list of names appears on screen again.
[[Ask the FBI to continue investigating Ibrahim]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise James Barton|Ibrahim/Barton]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Louisa de Clerk|Ibrahim/Clerk]]
[[Change your mind - ask them to prioritise Judge Whistler|Ibrahim/Judge]]
You tell the FBI to continue their investigation into Barton.
There is a long pause.
The timer counts down to '5:12' before a message appears.
'JAMES BARTON: We have just received news from the Attorney-General's office that what Mr Barton told his wife about agreeing a plea bargain was untrue. In fact he was due to be arrested tomorrow morning. We have no evidence that Mr Barton has access to explosives. However, in view of his extensive business contacts that cannot be ruled out.'
You sit thinking for a moment. The timer reads '4:14'.
You want more information. You wait for the list of names to appear again.
But it doesn't. Instead, a new message appears.
'You are running out of time. We have no further information. You must make a judgment based upon what you know. Find the bomber, seize the bomb.'

She also told us that Mr Barton is about to agree a plea bargain under which he will be required to serve a four-year prison term and pay a fine of eighty million dollars. He is pleased with the deal and is flying to see his lawyers to finalize the paperwork.
'However, preliminary checks with the Attorney General's office have found no record of any plea bargain. We think that Mr Barton may have been lying to his wife.'

The Committee does not think that there is any credible evidence to support that allegation, and considers it unlikely that the Judge would have access to any form of explosive device. You hand the bag to the startled steward.
'It's a bomb!' you shout.
But it isn't.
As you turn back to see if the Judge is following, you see Barton slowly rise to his feet behind her. He is holding his briefcase in front of him.
You desperately try to run towards him, but you are far too slow.
The last thing you hear is the rush of air as the cabin explodes around you.

At the last moment you change your mind. You step across and grab Barton's briefcase before he can react.
He reaches for you, but you slip his grasp and run to the front of the cabin.
'It's a bomb!' you shout to the startled steward. 'Stop him!'
The steward hesitates, then steps past you and tackles Barton, who has followed you down the aisle. You turn to see Ibrahim out of his seat as well, fighting to restrain Barton.
It seems you were right.

Unfortunately you failed to identify the bomber.
After a lifetime spent following the law, the judge wasn't going to make breaking it her last act.
Ibrahim Abdullah was what he appeared to be - a moderate religious scholar.
The pink unicorn that Georgina de Clerk carried was a present from her father - a stuffed toy - not a bomb given to her by a bitter parent.
James Barton felt that he had nothing to lose. He was going to spend most of his life in jail, and leave his family in poverty. He did he maths, and decided to end it all so that his wife and family could claim his life insurance.
The aeroplane crashed. Everyone on board died.

But you weren't just playing a game set in the world of FIVE MINDS.
As you played, the choices you made were assessed. Based on your choices it has been determined whether you would best be suited to being an android, a worker, a commune or a hedonist.
If you would like to know the answer [[Click Here|outcome]]. Only you will know your results, and they are not recorded.
If you would prefer not to know, you can [[Choose a Different Adventure|https://guymorpuss.com/adventure-game/]] or [[Play Again|FlighttoDanger]].<<if $com >= $hed and $com >= $and and $com >= $wor>><<goto "A Commune">><<endif>>

A COMMUNE.
As a Commune you are open-minded, empathetic, always curious and willing to take unusual decisions. You are unlikely to want to form long-term relationships. You are organised and care about others.
In the world of FIVE MINDS you would, at the age of 17, choose to share one body with four other people. You could retain one of your own bodies, or purchase a new one. Every day each of you would have 4 hours to use the body. When not using it you would be non-sentient. At the end of 25 years you would receive a new body.
You would live 5 lives – dying aged 142.
Thank you for playing. You can [[Choose a Different Adventure|https://guymorpuss.com/adventure-game/]] or [[Play Again|FlighttoDanger]].Based on the choices you made, we have determined that you are best suited to being ...
AN ANDROID.
As an Android you like certainty, derive little enjoyment from physical activities, and dislike being ill. You have no great fondness for eating or drinking, and seldom drink alcohol. You are willing to embrace change. You are most interested in the capabilities of the mind. You like the certainty of knowing when you will die. You can procreate, but are disinclined to do so.
In the world of FIVE MINDS, at the age of 17, your mind would be transferred to an artificial body, superficially indistinguishable from a human body. It would require no sustenance, and you would never fall ill.
You would die aged 80.

In the world of FIVE MINDS you would, at the age of 17, be provided with a luxurious lifestyle for the next 25 years. You would never need to work.
But you would die at age 42.

In the world of FIVE MINDS you would, at the age of 17, see little change. You would be educated and provided with a job, to work and earn credit.
You would have no set age by which you would die. Most workers outlive Hedonists (who die aged 42), and Androids (who die aged 80). But few, if any, will outlive Communes (who die aged 142).
